Stamford, Connecticut, United States Zappos Full time

Transform Customer Experiences

At Zappos, we push the boundaries of e-commerce innovation. Join our Discovery Team, the heart of the customer journey, and contribute to software development for the core customer journey from Homepage to checkout: Search, Search Results, Homepage, Ads, Widgets, Recommendations, and more. If you're passionate about cutting-edge products, thrive in dynamic environments, and are ready to grow your technical and leadership skills, we invite you to explore this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Maintain: Play a key role in the development and maintenance of Java-based applications leveraging AWS services (ECS, SQS, S3, DynamoDB). Contribute to the full software development lifecycle – development, testing, deployment, operations, and documentation.
  • Collaborate for Success: Work with peers to improve how your team's software is constructed. Demonstrate an understanding of the business and customer value of the software you work on.
  • Address Ambiguity: Take well-understood feature specifications and deliver working code. Logically separate code into reusable components. Exercise good judgment about when to work independently versus when to escalate to peers or your manager.
  • Solve Problems: Work on problems with visible risks or roadblocks. Deliver code that is simply implemented and easy for others to maintain or extend. Make common trade-offs in software development.
  • Uphold Best Practices: Collaborate with peers on the full software development lifecycle, ensuring root causes of operational issues are identified and resolved. Deliver code that meets the Zappos Code Bar, driving resolution when aspects are in conflict.
  • Learn and Grow: Seek and act on feedback to improve your code. Ask questions and learn from more experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Expertise: Proficiency in at least one programming language and a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, and software design).
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
    • AWS Knowledge: Hands-on experience with AWS technologies and familiarity with Java 8+, especially with the Spring Framework.
    • Search Engine Experience: Experience with search engines (ideally Solr), enhancing our customers' discovery journey.
    • Open Source Involvement: Familiarity with open-source tools (Git, SpringMVC, SpringBoot, Maven, Gradle, Ant, JUnit, Jenkins) to help us innovate.
    • Strategic Approach: Demonstrated ability to identify and implement operational improvements and solve complex problems with creative solutions.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunities for Growth: Professional development opportunities and a culture that encourages learning and growth
  • Collaborative Environment: Collaborative team environment with opportunities to work with experienced engineers
