We are seeking a highly skilled Surgery Scheduler to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures, ensuring seamless communication with patients, providers, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Scheduling and Coordination
- Locate and schedule surgical procedures in the Epic system, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile laterality issues and escalate case orders for corrections.
- Order special grafts and tissues as needed, coordinating with vendors and the clinical team.
- Schedule appointments with the correct provider, including all necessary information.
- Coordinate appointments on the same day when available, utilizing advanced knowledge of Access tools and workflows.
- Provide high-level customer service to referring providers and patients, establishing initial contact and managing complex patient calls.
- Ensure patients complete pre-op requirements prior to surgery, and establish positive relationships with referring providers and staff.
- Advocate for patients, helping them navigate through the system.
- Direct and assist patients, families, and staff in accessing appropriate resources.
- Contribute to the professional development of others through precepting and mentoring.
- Maintain a positive environment conducive to education and team participation.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent required, Associates Degree in a related field preferred.
- 3 years' experience in a clinical setting, with proficiency in medical terminology and/or CPT-coding.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to write legibly.
Working Conditions
- Sitting for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching, and computer use.
