Job Summary

The Registered Nurse II is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. This role requires a high level of expertise in critical care nursing, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct ongoing systematic assessments of patients' physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, as well as their nutritional needs and pain management.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that prioritize patient needs and are based on determined nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  • Implement care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with the healthcare team as needed.
  • Establish priorities for patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources, including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Identify patient and family learning needs and implement appropriate measures to meet them, promoting patient education and empowerment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, age-specific needs, cultural and ethical beliefs, and provide care that is respectful and compassionate.
  • Provide and coordinate care for patients and patient populations, collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Establish effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families, promoting a culture of collaboration and respect.
  • Acknowledge staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Delegate tasks and coordinate duties of healthcare team members, ensuring that patient care is delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by healthcare team members, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills, following established lines of authority, to ensure that patient care is delivered in a safe and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles, as identified within the institution, to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient care situations, following established protocols, and remain calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, promoting a culture of professionalism and excellence.
  • Participate regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel, promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management, in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities, as directed, to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in nursing research activities, as requested, to promote a culture of evidence-based practice.
  • Identify and solve problems effectively, promoting a culture of problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrate a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members, promoting a culture of service excellence.
  • Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in the resolution of staffing issues, promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking, and conveying information, utilizing electronic medical record systems and other technology as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary, promoting a culture of flexibility and adaptability.
