About the Job

As a Geotechnical Design Engineer with the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation, you will play a crucial role in providing geotechnical design information and construction support for transportation projects throughout the state.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Foundation, Geology, and Soils Sections with the collection of subsurface information, laboratory analysis, and design recommendations for structural foundations, soil embankments, subgrades, slope stability, and geologic studies.
  • Work in an office environment with eight-hour work days, but also be required to travel for site inspections and construction support.

Total Compensation

The total compensation for this position is approximately $88,469.00 annually, including hourly wage and state/federal benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an FE or PE license.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, South Dakota geology, geotechnical subsurface investigation techniques, and computer software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple projects concurrently, and provide work direction.
  • Skill to plan, prioritize, and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines, prepare and interpret engineering plans and reports, and read and interpret state and federal laws and department standards.
