About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Architectural Designer to join our Buildings team in our Woodcliff Lake, NJ office. As an Architectural Designer, you will work on a variety of projects, including early childhood & education, commercial, and retail projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Measure and photograph existing conditions of buildings and prepare documentation of those conditions.
  • Participate in the preparation of schematic design drawings, including modeling.
  • Participate in design development under the direction of a more senior architect, coordinating with engineering and client as requested, to meet the scope of the project.
  • Assist in the creation of construction documents, including specifications that cover every aspect of construction and materials used.
  • Verify all design aspects comply with local zoning code jurisdiction and work independently to apply code provisions and design procedures.
  • Assist in the creation of drawing sets, print, and review for errors/quality assurance/quality control to ensure no outstanding issues before submitting to Project Manager for more detailed verification; correct drawings per Project Manager redlines.
  • Adhere to multiple review sets and final release deadlines for client; support revision bulletins from field after project release.
  • Coordinate with in-house or outside consultants on engineering for structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing designs.
  • Assist in the selection of materials and finishes and the necessary coordination with manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Assist in project budgeting.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing bidding documents and then the review of contractor bids.
  • Attend construction meetings along with the project manager.
  • Assist with site visits during construction, including documentation of construction progress and review of contractor payment requisitions.
  • Maintain logs of submittals and shop drawings in project file folders.
  • Respond to requests for information throughout the construction phase.
  • Assist in development of project proposals and client presentations and attend client meetings.
  • Assist in the completion of LEED documentation as requested.
  • Attend client meetings to learn scope of project.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard architectural techniques and procedures as well as knowledge of building codes and regulations to create designs/drawings, while using judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
  • Assist in the development of client presentations; may participate in actual presentation, if requested.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, support and build relationships with others on the team and across disciplines/offices.
  • Be responsive to others and share information to improve efficiency and help others achieve goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate.
  • Suggest new ideas and processes; stay informed of developments in practice areas; view obstacles as opportunities.
Requirements
  • BArch or MArch degree in Architecture from an accredited university.
  • Relevant Years of experience required to perform the role: 2+ years of experience in design.
  • Intermediate skills in REVIT required; Enscape, Bluebeam Revu, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign operational skills preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in different phases at the same time and meet the associated project deadlines.
  • Ability to mentor new designers and summer interns.
  • Ability to research code provisions, products, material information, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate information exchange between clients, project manager, and project team.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
