Job Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and calibration of various clinical equipment, devices, systems, and instruments. This role requires strong technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of clinical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform planned maintenance, safety tests, and calibrate medical equipment as directed using specialized equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair clinical equipment and system malfunctions, and convey safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Participate in equipment evaluations, installations, and upgrades as assigned.
  • Perform incoming inspections, attach and assign control numbers and labels, and acquire necessary information for accurate database inventory entries.
  • Isolate the nature of service requests and convey planned courses of action to requesting parties.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation and enter service records through data management systems in a timely manner.
  • Conduct periodic service rounds of assigned clinical areas and provide technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Assist in researching resources for parts and services and initiate ordering parts and supplies.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and schedule and oversee third-party activities as necessary.
  • Provide front-line supervision, mentoring, and training to junior technicians as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum: High School diploma, associate's degree in electronics, biomedical engineering, or other technical discipline contributing to proficiency in maintenance and repair of clinical equipment within a healthcare environment.
  • Supervised internship or creditable experience in the maintenance and repair of clinical equipment.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical repair, with a minimum of two years of experience within a healthcare setting with direct responsibility for the maintenance and repair of clinical devices.
  • Preferred: Five years of experience within a healthcare setting with direct responsibility for the maintenance and repair of clinical devices, and CBET certification.
