Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver medications, supplies, and devices to nursing units, and pick up orders in a timely manner.
  • Fills medication orders and reorders for residents, and refills medication supply from a fill list audited by a pharmacist for accuracy.
  • Performs proper charges and credits for medications, supplies, and devices.
  • Restocks, organizes, and inventories medications and supplies throughout the facility.
  • Ensures medications are stored properly and checks expiration dates.
  • Enters medication orders and resident information to update the resident medication profile computer database.
  • Prepares and packages medication, and maintains a log for repackaging medications.
  • Maintains STAT box, emergency box, and IV start box medications.
  • Places orders with wholesalers and manufacturers, and processes items received to ensure correct product, quantity, price, proper storage, and check expiration date.
  • Returns recalled, out-of-date, or overstocked medications to wholesalers or manufacturers.
  • Maintains records of medications and supplies borrowed or loaned, and keeps accounts current.
  • Reviews, sorts, and files a variety of materials, including confidential information.
  • Maintains departmental records, files, notebooks, and references.
  • Handles departmental mail and correspondence.
  • Greets visitors and receives incoming telephone calls, screening them and making appropriate referrals to staff or departments.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Virginia Pharmacy Technician registration is required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is a plus.
  • Long-term care experience is a plus.
