Your Opportunity

This position involves contributing to smaller projects and collaborating as part of a larger team under the mentorship of a senior engineer or designer. You will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for various projects. Your tasks may include calculations, fieldwork, coordination of activities, and participation in meetings. The smaller projects assigned to you will typically have fewer complex features.

As a Civil Engineer, you will support senior engineers and designers by handling routine aspects of civil engineering tasks and may assist in analyzing proposed projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct civil engineering design, which may encompass engineering drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, engineering reports, design criteria, and preparing applications for regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project documentation, client presentations, and communication regarding specific project deliverables.
  • Participate in client, contractor, stakeholder, and regulatory agency meetings to gain insights into client objectives, project requirements, site evaluations, key challenges, and coordination.
  • Support the development of designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Identify potential technical issues and initiate appropriate corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure alignment with design intent.
  • Assist in creating job-specific discipline specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration duties.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting civil systems and materials.
  • Engage in value engineering and basic cost estimation.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • General understanding of civil engineering design concepts, including sanitary and water system engineering design, gravity and pressure systems, unit processes for wastewater and water treatment, and geotechnical surveys.
  • Familiarity with all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to recognize and address developing technical issues using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of codes, legal, and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions, along with developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thinking.
  • Capability to interpret sketches, drawings, and similar materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant discipline software programs, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or other modeling software.
  • Proactive in tasks and coordination with other design team members.
  • Developing ability to effectively communicate project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of working efficiently and effectively within a team.
Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

This role typically involves working in an office environment with computers and extended periods at a desk. Fieldwork may include exposure to various weather conditions.
