Job Summary:

As a Patient Care Technician at Baystate Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and supportive environment. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will work closely with the RN to coordinate daily activities and perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions. Your responsibilities will include direct patient care, hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring, as well as performing phlebotomy and EKGs as needed. You will be expected to manage equipment and perform or assist in all procedures on the unit. This role requires a strong commitment to patient safety and a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide age-appropriate care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
2. Monitor basic physiological parameters, taking and recording routine vital signs within the specified timeframe and reporting any significant deviations immediately.
3. Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with BMC policy and procedure, including changing dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe and providing postmortem care as directed by the RN.
4. Assist patients with elimination of body wastes, making available or offering bedpans, urinals, and emesis basins immediately after patient request and accurately labeling and sending specimens of urine, feces, and sputum within 30 minutes of the specified timeframe.
5. Perform POC testing and assist in the delivery of ancillary services as directed, including monitoring patient condition during treatment and notifying appropriate personnel of unexpected occurrences.
6. Communicate effectively with the team and patients, interacting with patients in a respectful and informative manner and clearly communicating information related to patient care to the team.
7. Be knowledgeable of and initiate emergency procedures, responding effectively in emergency situations and maintaining patient safety at all times.

Requirements:

1. One year of acute care experience preferred.
2. Proficient in reading and writing in English.

Education and Certifications:

Basic Life Support certification required. American Heart Association, Certified Nurse Aide certification preferred. Other certifications may be required based on unit needs.
