Job Summary:

PROMESA R.H.C.F. is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Head Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing individual educational plans for children, promoting their social, physical, and emotional development, and working collaboratively with other staff members to maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement creative curricula in the classroom, aligned with the Head Start Performance Standards and the Core Curriculum.
  • Teaching and Learning: Plan and implement learning experiences that promote all developmental areas, including improving the readiness of children for school.
  • Classroom Management: Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities, choice time, and selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and developmental assessments completed as per ACS and DOE.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Conduct home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child's individual development and progress, assist parents in developing observational skills, and solicit parent observations.
  • Teamwork and Professional Development: Work collaboratively with other staff members to maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment, and participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher Professional Development Plan.
Requirements:
  • Education: A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field, with at least 18 credit hours in early childhood education and experience teaching children in the age range for which they are applying.
  • Experience: Knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of Head Start (or comparable child development programs), early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Proof of a physical examination within the last 6 months, which includes a tuberculosis test, and compliance with other background checks as required by the Agency and/or DOHMH licensing, DOE, and ACS.
  • Personal Qualifications: Emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that does not interfere with responsibilities.
