Key Responsibilities
  • Lead consultations with clients, vendors, and Argonaut personnel to formulate comprehensive estimates for projects.
  • Analyze complex project drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering construction projects.
  • Evaluate and meticulously quantify all project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor bids, ensuring thorough accuracy and completeness.
  • Negotiate costs effectively and diligently follow up on submitted bids until final selections are completed.
  • Foster and cultivate strong client relations and communications, maintaining a professional and responsive approach throughout project cycles.
  • Facilitate and chair well-organized bid review meetings, ensuring thorough analysis and consensus-building among stakeholders.
  • Uphold and enforce high company standards and practices, applying seasoned judgment and expertise to ensure compliance and quality in estimating processes.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to project close-out review meetings, providing valuable insights and documentation as required.
  • Understand and integrate project-specific minority goal requirements where applicable, ensuring compliance and alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather comprehensive and pertinent information necessary for accurate bid preparation.
  • Utilize advanced estimating software and leverage historical data to develop sophisticated cost models and maintain comprehensive pricing databases.
  • Present and skillfully defend detailed cost estimates to senior management and clients, adeptly addressing inquiries, providing clarifications, and demonstrating thorough understanding and confidence.
  • Monitor and stay informed about industry trends, fluctuations in materials costs, and labor rates, ensuring that estimates are current, precise, and reflective of prevailing market conditions.
  • Maintain meticulous and well-organized records of estimates, proposals, and all related documentation, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with organizational standards and requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience as an estimator in the civil engineering or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS, CostX).
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical documents and drawings.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with project management or scheduling software is a plus.
  • Ability to research local jurisdictions requirements including permits and taxes.
  • Ability to conduct Estimator/PM handoff meetings and attend project planning meetings.
  • Prepare estimates for change orders as requested by Project Managers.
  • Ability to communicate with field operations to assure job progresses as bid.
  • Read and understand the bid documents.
  • Use historical costs for comparison.
  • Have excellent client relations and communication skills.
  • Be familiar with new technologies and market trends.
  • Have a thorough understanding of Heavy Construction equipment capabilities and crew compilations needed for executing surface and underground work.
