Law Enforcement Specialist

As a Special Enforcement Officer with the Cherokee Nation, you will play a critical role in providing law enforcement services within the respective locations for court and/or transport. This position requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:- Adhere to the Cherokee Nation policy for transport and provide custody and security of prisoners as needed.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain logs as indicated by the applicable standards and properly prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
- Prepare and organize court documents and case records as needed.
- Apprehend and arrest individuals who are overly disruptive or violent.
- Interpret and respond to disruptive scenarios and be qualified to use an agency-issued firearm.
- Exercise good judgment and handle outbursts and maintain rapport with a wide range of people.
- Become familiar with courtrooms, legal terminology, and protocols respective to tribal, state, and federal judicial provisions.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.
- Experience preferred but not required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
- Must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
- Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must complete or possess CLEET certification within two years of hire and then maintain throughout employment.
- Must pass and maintain the ability to pass the Minnesota Multiphasic Physiological Inventory (MMPI).
- Must meet and maintain medical suitability.
- Must pass firearms qualification semi-annually.
The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:The employee may frequently be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
