Job Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures confidentiality and maintains accurate records
  • Provides nursing care in post-acute care facilities, including vital sign checks and regular reports
  • Observes residents' conditions, alerts supervising staff to concerns or emergencies, and assists with activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Assists with meals, feeds participants, ambulates, turns, and positions participants, and provides fresh water and nourishment between meals
  • Changes linens, sanitizes surfaces, and performs other tasks to maintain a clean and sanitary environment
  • Communicates with family members and other visitors, addresses their concerns, and moves residents safely and comfortably
  • Administers enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths, and applies restraints
Requirements
  • Prior experience working with people with developmental and physical disabilities preferred
  • Ability to mentor and assist individuals in all areas of life skills, including recreation, independence, communication, and health
  • Valid driver's license required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Basic computer aptitude and ability to speak/write in English
  • Experienced with Department of Developmental Services regulations, forms, and protocols
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Current State of CT CNA License
  • Knowledge of medical terms and basic nursing care procedures
  • Strong observational skills and high level of attention to detail
