Job Overview

OVERVIEW:

The General Manager is responsible for the comprehensive management of all hotel functions. This role requires active leadership to ensure guest experiences surpass expectations while optimizing revenue and managing costs effectively. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Operations, the GM acts as the central point of communication among staff, guests, clients, and the Corporate Support office. They will set daily priorities and guide department heads in critical areas such as administration, food & beverage, maintenance, sales, and housekeeping to guarantee seamless and efficient operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster, communicate, and exemplify Avantic's Support Culture and core values.
  • Provide guidance and direction to department heads and frontline staff.
  • Oversee the hotel's financial performance by effectively managing expenses and developing, analyzing, and implementing budgets, sales strategies, and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with company and brand standards, as well as all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to guest feedback promptly and effectively resolve any concerns or complaints.
  • Engage in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, and employee relations processes to promote quality, continuous improvement, and positive team morale.
  • Implement People Support strategies by defining responsibilities, enforcing policies and procedures, communicating Avantic's programs, and evaluating performance and compensation practices.
  • Contribute to organizational strategies by providing insights, analysis, and recommendations; establish functional objectives that align with broader organizational goals.
  • Advise on hotel operational strategies by assessing trends, setting critical metrics, identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency, and implementing necessary changes.
  • Support financial strategies by forecasting requirements and variances, aligning financial resources, and analyzing outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Revenue Management teams to strategically position the hotel's rates within the competitive landscape.
  • Act as a representative for the hotel by engaging with civic, community, and business organizations and sponsoring special events.
  • Maintain a keen awareness of product quality and the condition of the property by regularly inspecting facilities, food and beverage areas, guest rooms, public spaces, and outdoor grounds for cleanliness and order.
  • Work alongside the Regional Director of Operations and corporate Design & Construction team to execute capital improvement projects.
  • Enhance job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, utilizing brand learning resources, reading industry publications, maintaining professional networks, and engaging in professional organizations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree or a suitable combination of education and experience that supports on-the-job effectiveness.
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior experience in hotel operations and leadership, including successful management of a large team with a focus on outstanding guest service.
  • Demonstrated financial expertise with significant past P&L accountability.
  • Proficient in computer applications, with the ability to navigate databases, browsers, email, documents, and spreadsheets.
  • Exceptional service orientation, with a strong ability to prioritize and address guest needs.
  • Dependable and responsible character, with excellent follow-up and attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in guiding employees to consistently achieve personal and departmental performance objectives.
  • Proactive mindset, with strong initiative and problem-solving skills to ensure high productivity and guest satisfaction.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with major hospitality brands is highly desirable.
