Position Overview

The Systems Solutions Specialist is an expert in the comprehensive design, evaluation, execution, and maintenance of technological systems, software, and various IT solutions. This role serves as the project leader for all designated initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage actively in the upkeep, surveillance, reporting, and support of operating systems, applications, and services.
  • Conduct routine problem analysis and devise resolution strategies for systems and applications.
  • Diagnose issues with computer systems, including hardware and software troubleshooting, communication, network, and peripheral equipment; implement repairs and corrections as necessary, adhering to service level agreement (SLA) guidelines.
  • Direct the design, planning, installation, and support of computer systems, network hardware, software applications, and peripherals.
  • Oversee the formulation and execution of policies and procedures to guarantee system provisioning and maintenance aligns with corporate objectives, industry best practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the Business System Architecture (BSA) team to facilitate IT functions in project and program planning.
  • Support IT initiatives through active participation in the organization and planning of projects, both internal and customer-facing.
  • Exhibit independent judgment in the planning, scheduling, organizing, controlling, and monitoring of IT projects.
  • Implement patches and upgrades to server hardware, firmware, and software across production platforms.
  • Utilize Help Desk ticketing systems effectively for incident and problem management, customer interaction, and follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain System Configuration documentation in accordance with industry best practices to fulfill customer objectives while ensuring data and infrastructure security and integrity.
  • Maintain records regarding system downtime, preventative maintenance plans, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Contribute to task and role planning for System Administrator II and I personnel.
  • Actively participate in the Cross-Training initiative for Tier III Platforms.
  • Conduct and verify routine system backups and restorations.
  • Assist in managing Active Directory, Group Policies, Users, and Computers.
  • Prioritize, coordinate, and escalate unresolved issues or emergencies to other support tiers/teams in line with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Communicate effectively with end-users, management, and other systems departments.
  • Engage in capacity planning and the establishment of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in collaboration with end-users and department management.
  • Be available for on-call production system support.
  • Provide continuous monitoring of network and storage performance, delivering Tier 2 & 3 support for a global network infrastructure.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field with 7+ years of experience in network and operating systems, or an Associate's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in managing and implementing server/client systems with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Platforms and Federation Services (NetIQ, ADFS, Duo, SAML, etc.).
  • Experience with Windows Server technologies (2008 R2-2016 preferred), Active Directory, DFS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, InTune, Conditional Access Policies, etc.), Microsoft SQL (2008/2012/2014/2016), Microsoft IIS, and Linux support (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Experience with Mail Security Gateways (IronPort, ProofPoint, etc.).
  • Prior experience supporting an Enterprise Backup Solution.
  • Endpoint management/reporting using Enterprise Antivirus Management server technologies (TrendMicro, Symantec Enterprise Protection Manager, etc.).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware vCenter/ESXi, VMware Horizon) including VM Deployment, Monitoring, Configuration, Setup, and Expansion.
  • Proficient in endpoint management/reporting via Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
  • Experience supporting Cisco UCS Blade infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and related services (i.e., DNS, SMTP, DHCP, Load-Balancers, etc.).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the capability to identify root causes and resolve systemic issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while effectively prioritizing critical issues.
  • Competence in creating, documenting, and adhering to processes and procedures.
  • Eligibility for DoD Personal Security Clearance is required.
  • Possession of one or more certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is essential.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SAN, NAS, Virtual Storage, and Backup technologies (Nimble, Veeam, vSAN, and/or DataDomain).
  • Administration experience with Microsoft Enterprise CA Cert Requests/Monitoring.
  • Administration experience with Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
  • Administration experience managing Microsoft File Server (DFS-R/DFS-N, ABE) File Share Requests, Recovery, and Permission Management.
  • Familiarity with Information Assurance programs is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerShell Scripting for Server/Platform management.
  • Possession of certifications such as VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or CISSP is a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Regularly, employees are required to sit, communicate in person and via telephone, operate standard office equipment, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent walking and standing are required, along with the occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Duties are performed in both an office and manufacturing environment. Flexibility to work overtime and on-call shifts is required.
