Job Summary

The City of Allen, TX is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our detention facility, ensuring the well-being of inmates, and providing exceptional customer service to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Booking and Release Procedures: Perform intake and release procedures for inmates, including verifying charges, inputting information into the computer system, collecting payment for jail fees, and completing required paperwork and forms.
  • Prisoner Care: Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the detention facility by conducting hourly checks, searching for contraband, and monitoring inmate status.
  • Property and Supply Distribution: Distribute property and supplies to inmates, including clothing, mattresses, blankets, medication, and meals.
  • Custodial Services: Maintain the sanitary condition of the detention facility, cleaning discarded items and bio-hazardous waste.
  • Violent Inmate Response: Respond to violent inmates by applying knowledge of the Allen Police Department's Force Continuum, preventing incident escalation by using non-physical or physical force as necessary.
  • Facility Equipment Operation: Operate detention facility equipment, including office equipment, fingerprinting and photographic services, and other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant experience.
  • Certifications: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
