Role Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in overseeing caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality care for residents while adhering to our philosophy and prioritizing resident well-being. The CMA is responsible for the accurate administration of medications as per state regulations and company policies, providing personalized care, and responding effectively to emergencies.
Essential Qualifications
- At least one year of experience in a Senior Living setting.
- Preferred supervisory experience in healthcare or service sectors.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
- Warm and caring attitude with a strong desire to work with elderly individuals.
- Must be at least 21 years old and pass a criminal background check.
- Completion of a physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screening is required.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care
- Execute assigned duties effectively as directed by the Wellness Director or Executive Director, supervising caregiver staff to ensure quality care.
- Adhere to each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and report any changes in resident conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Respond promptly to resident calls and requests.
- Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director when uncertain about medication administration.
- Assist with meal service and oversee caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
- Implement infection control measures and dispose of waste according to established protocols.
- Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
- Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
- Assist in scheduling caregiver staff to meet resident needs effectively.
- Respond to workplace injuries in accordance with company policies.
- Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as mandated.
- Encourage teamwork and uphold the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
- Maintain an open-door policy for staff to address concerns.
- Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current.
Medication Management
- Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration, ensuring accuracy at each step of the process.
- Administer medications according to the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while safeguarding resident privacy.
- Respect residents' rights to refuse medications and ensure their safety during administration.
- Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report findings immediately.
Communication
- Participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
- Effectively communicate residents' needs during shift changes and report any significant changes in their condition.
- Ensure all necessary documentation for resident care is completed and up-to-date.
Physical Requirements
To meet the demands of this role, employees must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Typical daily activities include:
- Standing or walking for up to eight hours.
- Sitting for up to two hours.
- Frequently lifting up to 70 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 15 pounds.
- Regularly kneeling, bending, and reaching, with assistance available for resident transfers as needed.
