Academic Advisor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at Stony Brook University's Division of Undergraduate Education. As a key member of our student-centered department, you will play a vital role in fostering and enhancing the undergraduate academic experience.

• Provide high-quality, proactive academic advising to undergraduates in an assigned cohort, including individual and group settings, and regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies/procedures.
• Support students on academic action, providing active support, follow-up, and strategies for success.
• Manage administrative tasks, including programming, special initiatives, and budget.
• Coordinate functional assignments within the unit, such as seminar or program coordination, in-depth work with a specific student population, curriculum involvement, faculty/academic department collaborations, peer leadership opportunities, orientation, academic standing, or other operation, service, project, or retention-enhancing initiative.
• Assist in the coordination and implementation of orientation sessions for incoming students, providing 1:1 and group advising for new students regarding academic planning, policies, course requirements, and the process of registration.

• Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline.
• Three (3) years of full-time experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services in an educational setting.
• Experience coordinating projects, programs, and/or events.

• Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline.
• Experience at the college or university level working with undergraduate students.
• Academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
• Experience teaching student-development related courses, facilitating workshops, or leading presentations.
• Experience interacting with a diverse student population in an academic environment.
