Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a sterile workspace while handling immune-compromised mice, employing aseptic methods.
- Conduct routine animal husbandry tasks, ensuring optimal living conditions.
- Perform cage changes, supplying clean bedding and necessary materials for the mice in the vivarium.
- Monitor and assess animal health, behavior, and overall condition.
- Document observations and provide assistance with basic veterinary care as directed by veterinary personnel.
- Execute sanitation protocols for animal rooms and procedure areas within the vivarium.
- Carry out routine decontamination of equipment and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of environmental monitoring and conditions.
- Manage biowaste disposal through autoclaving processes.
- Utilize fogging techniques for thorough decontamination of vivarium spaces.
- Monitor and record temperatures of freezers and refrigeration units.
- Operate laboratory equipment and perform data entry tasks efficiently.
- Keep detailed and accurate study documentation.
- Assist in managing vivarium supplies, including inventory control and ordering.
- Be prepared for routine weekend and holiday shifts as required.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a laboratory animal facility.
- Understanding of animal welfare regulations and ethical considerations in research.
- Ability to maintain meticulous records of experimental procedures.
- Detail-oriented with strong multitasking capabilities.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules, including weekends and holidays.
- Proficient in computer usage, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in animal dosing, tissue collection, and tumor measurement is advantageous.
