Shift Details

Wednesday through Saturday overnight: 8:30 PM - 7:00 AM

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferred: Two (2) years of experience in ultrasound. Associate's degree in Ultrasound Technology or a Graduate of an Accredited Sonography Program. Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Certification: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited course (AHA or ARC) required by the first day of employment.
  • If hired without RVT certification, obtaining it within 6 months of hire is mandatory to maintain employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring adequate supplies for procedures. Demonstrate responsible use of hospital resources to meet financial goals. Regularly check equipment for functionality and report issues promptly. Respond to inquiries regarding procedures in a timely manner. Communicate any equipment or exam-related problems during shifts with relevant staff. Engage in equitable workload distribution and participate in training new employees and students. Conduct quality control on assigned equipment and report any issues promptly. Attend departmental meetings and complete required training on time. Perform duties in the best interest of patients and the facility. Adhere to departmental attendance and dress code policies. Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of designated supervisors as needed. Participate in all regulatory compliance activities.
  • Patient Interaction: Verify patient identification using two identifiers as per hospital policies. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients. Ensure proper patient preparation, verify screening protocols, and address questions. Assess patient history and symptoms for clinical criteria. Instruct patients and their families regarding tests and evaluate their ability to tolerate exams. Maintain current knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care across various age groups.
  • Exam Performance: Conduct color duplex imaging procedures including carotid, extremity venous and arterial studies, abdominal Doppler, small parts, OB/GYN, and general abdominal exams as assigned. Perform non-invasive imaging evaluations of arteries and veins using Doppler and plethysmographic techniques. Verify requisitions for valid orders and ensure timely, high-quality examinations. Assist physicians with additional imaging or biopsy procedures as needed. Ensure proper documentation and labeling of images and records. Administer contrast material as appropriate and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Job Performance: May include training students in current competencies, assisting in the orientation of new staff, participating in QA/QC programs, and engaging in accreditation processes. Organize and participate in conferences and technical meetings. Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to apply modality expertise in applications and procedures. Recognize artifacts and unusual problems during scanning. Interact with stakeholders according to PACT standards. Propose creative solutions to workflow challenges. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a high-volume environment. Build effective teams across interdepartmental modalities.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted in a hospital or clinic environment.
