Job Title: Paralegal Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Paralegal Specialist to support the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Virginia (USAO WDVA). This is a full-time opportunity that offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and job stability and security.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and process legal documents, including complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, and subpoenas.
  • Assist attorneys in trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, jury instructions, witness and exhibit lists.
  • Coordinate with the victim/witness specialist to ensure adherence to current Departmental guidelines.
  • Verify citations and statutory references contained in legal documents using original and online legal resources.
  • Compose original letters requiring a knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology.
  • Manage case-related databases and perform docketing duties using the automated case tracking system.
  • Provide technical support for courtroom presentations, including preparing documents, charts, and visual materials.
Requirements:
  • 2 years of paralegal experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Education:
  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or an equivalent field required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.

Clearance:

U.S. citizenship required since this role supports the U.S. federal government.

Travel:

Travel is required.

Work Hours:

40 hours per week, 8 hours per day.

Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual's primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
