Role Overview:

The Medical Imaging Coordinator is responsible for welcoming and interviewing patients, their families, or representatives to collect and document essential demographic information for various diagnostic records and care provision. This role serves as the central communication hub for the Diagnostic Imaging department, managing all incoming calls efficiently. The coordinator interprets and accurately enters physician requests into the hospital information system with minimal oversight. Additionally, they are tasked with scanning physician orders into the diagnostic information system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Warmly welcomes, greets, and directs patients, visitors, and hospital staff arriving in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
  • Conducts interviews with outpatients to gather clinical history and selects the appropriate exams as ordered by physicians, generating computer requisitions and ensuring accurate billing for all outpatient procedures.
  • Processes incoming computer requisitions for emergency department and inpatient diagnostic imaging exams.
  • Handles requisitions for the Danielson and Plainfield Diagnostic Centers, submitting them for radiological interpretation.
  • Maintains organized records of all diagnostic imaging examinations and reports.
  • Handles telephone inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality, routing calls or documenting messages accurately.
  • Responsible for the precise filing and upkeep of requisitions received via interoffice mail and fax for all diagnostic exams.
  • Photocopies confidential patient reports, films, and creates CDs upon request, ensuring proper identification and signed requests are obtained.
  • Retrieves films and reports from off-site facilities on a daily basis.
  • Efficiently manages multiple tasks including answering phones, greeting patients, inputting orders, and addressing inquiries.
  • Operates various office equipment such as PCs, fax machines, scanners, CD burners, and copiers.
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • Preferred experience of three to twelve months in clerical roles or within a healthcare office environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential.
