Your Contribution
As a Rehabilitation Specialist, you will assess the intricate dynamics between clients, their activities, and the environments in which they engage. Your interventions may include:
- Facilitating full participation in educational and social contexts for clients with disabilities
- Assisting clients in recovering skills post-injury or surgery to enhance their functional capabilities
- Providing support to elderly clients experiencing cognitive or physical transitions
Position Summary
Rehabilitation Specialists play a vital role in the care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by concentrating on activities and objectives that hold significance for the individuals and their families. Key performance areas encompass cognitive, sensory, perceptual, motor, and psychosocial activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver quality care by evaluating and interpreting assessments and test outcomes, and formulating occupational therapy treatment strategies.
- Assist clients in developing or regaining physical or mental abilities or adapting to disabilities through:
- Implementing programs that include manual arts and crafts
- Engaging in functional, prevocational, vocational, daily living, sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities
- Guiding aides, instructors, and assistants
This role may involve assisting with client behaviors and collaborating with program staff to implement effective techniques and tools to support client success in both classroom and community settings.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Creative problem-solving abilities
- Proven patience in high-pressure situations
- Demonstrated adaptability in managing complex scenarios
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience preferred
Specialized Knowledge
- Current State of Texas OT License required
- Current Texas Liability Insurance required
- CPR and CPI certifications must be up to date
- Ability to pass a background check with no offenses that could compromise program integrity
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and valid car insurance required

Working Conditions
My Possibilities operates on a campus model. Therapy is generally provided in office or classroom settings, with some opportunities for community-based therapy as appropriate. The role requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers to fulfill job responsibilities. The position may also involve managing behavioral situations throughout the facility and in the community, necessitating physical activities such as running, lifting, bending, and crouching.
