Job Overview:
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room, providing essential support to the surgical team throughout various procedures. This position requires a blend of technical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgical team by providing intraoperative care to patients during surgical procedures.
- Maintain a sterile environment and monitor the surgical field in collaboration with the circulating nurse.
- Conduct sponge, instrument, and needle counts to ensure patient safety.
- Prepare and organize surgical supplies and equipment prior to procedures.
- Support the surgical team by assisting with gowning and gloving, as well as positioning necessary equipment.
- Manage inventory levels and restock supplies as needed.
- Engage in cleaning and maintenance duties within the surgical department.
- Perform equipment checks and accurately record patient charges.
- Mentor and guide team members to foster their professional development.
Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse with a minimum of two years of scrub experience.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program and certification as a surgical technologist.
- Successful completion of a surgical tech externship program.
- Certification in Basic Life Support is required within the initial onboarding period.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in Surgical Technology is highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge in a specific surgical specialty is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 40 pounds and maneuver heavy carts.
- Strong visual, auditory, and manual dexterity skills.
- Willingness to wear lead protection for prolonged durations.
