Job Summary

Geisinger Health System is seeking a highly skilled Infection Control Practitioner to support and maintain the organization's strategic goals and objectives related to infection prevention and control. The successful candidate will ensure successful regulatory surveys and overall safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in the development and implementation of Infection Control programs and activities in assigned areas and departments.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve infection prevention and control practices and provide education to assure the effectiveness of the Infection Control Program.
  • Coordinate rounds in all patient care areas and recommend changes in patient care and department-specific education about infection control practices based on information collected or observed on rounds.
  • Coordinate implementation and education about the Infection Control Plan as assigned.
  • Assist with implementation of hospital-wide infection control activities.
  • Identify and record hospital-acquired infections per Act 52 and Act 13 requirements.
  • Review appropriate laboratory data and medical records for surveillance and reporting purposes.
  • Analyze records and prepare reports on the incidence of targeted infections.
  • Understand and communicate Joint Commission and other governing body requirements which relate to Infection.
  • Actively participate in all regulatory surveys.
  • Participate in surveillance activities to identify unusual epidemic situations, to evaluate the impact of new procedures or equipment, and to evaluate how the infection prevention and control program impacts the delivery of patient care.
  • Collaborate with representatives of community health agencies and other institutions to assure coordinated service for prevention and control of infection.
  • Assist Public Health authorities in the investigation of reportable infections as required.
  • Perform concurrent and retrospective medical record review to identify potential hospital-acquired infections.
  • Support Infection Prevention Program independently supporting system-level initiatives and projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field highly preferred.
  • CIC - Certification from the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology within 2 years of hire required.
