Position Overview

The Department of Mechanical Engineering within the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Clemson University is seeking qualified candidates for a faculty position focused on the Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI) campus.

Research Focus

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in modeling, simulation, and advanced control systems related to wind turbine technology. The role is intended for candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Facilities and Resources

CURI is home to a state-of-the-art power facility, established with significant funding from the Department of Energy. This includes the Dominion Energy Innovation Center, which features the most advanced testing capabilities for wind turbine drivetrain systems.

The center also hosts the Duke Energy Electrical Grid Research Innovation and Development (eGRID) Center, equipped with real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a robust research program that attracts funding from federal, state, and corporate sources.
  • Utilize the unique facilities at CURI to advance research in dynamic load assessment, failure prediction, condition monitoring, and control strategies.
  • Contribute to the educational mission of the Department through teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline and demonstrate the potential to establish an internationally recognized research program.
