Position Overview

The Sacramento State College Corps (SSCC) is in search of a graduate student to fulfill the role of Graduate Student Assistant focused on Student Engagement and Retention. This position is dedicated to supporting the coordination and advisory services for fellow students.

Eligibility

This opportunity is exclusively for internal candidates; external applicants will not be considered.

Employment Conditions

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited student role. Employment is contingent upon mutual agreement between University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee, allowing either party to terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.

Employees are restricted from holding multiple positions within University Enterprises, Inc. simultaneously or working across different colleges or centers during the same pay period. Those contemplating a transition to a different role within UEI should notify their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.

Pre-employment background checks may include assessments of employment history, professional references, criminal records, and educational verification. Successful completion of these checks is required for employment.

Prerequisites

Applicants must be enrolled as graduate students at Sacramento State, with a minimum of four semester units.

Preferred Fields of Study

Open to all majors.

Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and hours are available, typically Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM, with the final schedule determined by the supervisor.

Graduate Student Assistants generally work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and may work up to 40 hours per week during breaks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Exceptional organizational, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with professional etiquette and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of general workplace expectations, including punctuality and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in gathering, computing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to assess situations and implement effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general advising and coordination for 20-30 Sacramento State student fellows.
  • Assist in the development of communication strategies to engage eligible students in the program.
  • Support students in meeting program requirements, including document submissions and verification processes.
  • Connect students with campus and community resources to address various needs including academic support and financial assistance.
  • Maintain regular communication with fellows through various channels to ensure their success and program completion.
  • Contribute to training and activities in collaboration with SSCC staff and campus partners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate data collection and reporting as required by funding agencies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and contribute to meetings and events at various levels.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the program and its participants.
Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, and perform manual tasks. Requires corrected hearing and vision, effective verbal communication, and the use of office equipment.

Working Environment

This role is primarily office-based.
