At WMCHealth, we are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Job Description

The Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for performing routine and special analysis of biological specimens according to established protocol. This includes consistently seeking and consulting with other departments to assist in workflow efficiencies when immediate tasks are completed, in order to expedite patient care.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills and the ability to recognize abnormal or inconsistent test results and follow through accordingly. Additionally, they will be able to review coworkers' reports where appropriate, for release, and follow protocol for critical/panic values.

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who can demonstrate and maintain competencies in all applicable testing areas. The successful candidate will also be able to perform quality control procedures according to established protocol, and follow through with corrective action and documentation when necessary.

Other key responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance of all departmental equipment/instruments, maintaining department inventory, and communicating effectively with Supervisor or designee when inventory is low. The successful candidate will also be able to troubleshoot and repair instrumentation problems, and initiate communication with service/vendor to problem-solve.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher for Clinical Laboratory Technologist or substantial equivalence as per New York State Education Department. Current licensure in New York State as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is also required.

Certification in a national accrediting agency is preferred, but not mandatory. The successful candidate will also have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
