San Francisco California, United States City and County of San Francisco Full time
Position Overview:

The Sustainability Team at SFO collaborates with various airport departments to integrate sustainable practices into operations, development, and strategic planning.

Key Focus Areas:
Our initiatives are centered around five critical domains: Energy, Carbon, Waste, Health, and Water, each with ambitious 2030 objectives outlined in SFO's sustainability framework. To reach our goals of net zero energy and carbon emissions, SFO diligently monitors and compiles data on utilities (such as water, gas, and electricity), greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), and the performance of advanced energy assets, among other metrics, to support a decarbonized future.

Role Responsibilities:
- Identify, define, and explore opportunities for enhancing energy performance and reducing carbon footprints across programs, policies, and projects.

- Gather, refine, and consolidate data through fieldwork, SFO databases, and publicly accessible information.

Data Types Include:
- Electric vehicle charging, fuel consumption, vehicle miles traveled, on-site energy generation, electricity and natural gas usage, energy savings assessments, and compliance tracking for grants.

- Analyze, interpret, and visually present findings using charts, graphics, and infographics.

- Compose clear and concise narratives regarding data, methodologies, and outcomes for inclusion in reports, memos, and presentations.

- Deliver presentations both online and in-person to project teams and stakeholders.

- Organize stakeholder meetings by setting agendas, preparing pre-read materials, documenting meeting minutes, and distributing reference materials for future use.

- Collaborate independently and with staff from Sustainability and other departments to achieve objectives.

- Investigate the relevance of new technologies, local/state/federal regulations, and grant opportunities, and communicate findings effectively.

- Assist in greenhouse gas accounting utilizing the Airport Council International's Airport Carbon Emissions Report Tool (ACERT) and adhere to industry best practices for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

- Engage with airlines and other airport tenants to gather Scope 3 emissions data, provide recommendations for emissions reductions, and support implementation efforts.

- Contribute to additional airport sustainability initiatives as required, including capital project stakeholder meetings, waste assessments, staff training, food donation programs, Green Business certification compliance, third-party rating systems reporting, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) reporting, campus tours, outreach events, public inquiries, and website updates.

- Perform other duties as assigned and outlined in the classification.
