Job Summary

The University of Miami's Physics Division is seeking a highly skilled Medical Physics Specialist to support the operation of radiation therapy venues. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical physics support, including commissioning and quality assurance of external beam radiotherapy machines, special physics consultation, and participation in radiation treatment planning and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commission and continuously quality assure external beam radiotherapy machines, including linear accelerators.
  • Provide special physics consultation as requested by radiation oncologists.
  • Participate in the preparation of radiation treatment, including image acquisition, treatment planning, evaluation, and verification of treatment plans.
  • Supervise treatment delivery for conventional treatment, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), total body irradiation (TBI), total skin electron therapy (TSET), MR-guided radiation therapy (ViewRay), and stereotactic radiosurgery/therapy (SRS and SBRT).
  • Perform weekly continuing physics chart checks and conduct physics-related tasks and quality assurance procedures for high-dose-rate (HDR) and low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy.
  • Supervise and collaborate with dosimetrists on all aspects of dosimetric procedures.
  • Liaise with relevant entities in the department to facilitate radiation treatment delivery.
  • Participate in resident and medical physics graduate program teaching, including didactic lecturing and hands-on instruction.
  • Contribute to academic activities, including graduate teaching, post-graduate mentoring, and research activities as directed by the Chief of Medical Physics.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in medical physics, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • ABR (or equivalent) certification or eligibility.
