Part-time Lifeguard Position

West Virginia University is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Summer Lifeguard to ensure the safety of the pool facility and its patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the aquatic facility to identify potential hazards and prevent injuries and accidents.
  • Work as a team to respond quickly and decisively to emergencies, providing emergency care and treatment as required.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service and participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related areas, and perform opening and closing procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 0-6 months of related experience.
  • Ability to pass a skill screening by swimming 300 yards, retrieving a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool, and treading water for 2 minutes using only legs.
  • Ability and willingness to pass a lifeguard certification course or be certified in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with evening and weekend work required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
