Job Summary:

The Diesel Technician will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of diesel engines and components for our fleet of trucks and other vehicles. This role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of diesel engine systems and components. Excellent customer service skills are essential as you will be client-facing and working on their vehicles. As with all positions within dealerships, Technicians are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines and other related components
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine performance issues
  • Replace and repair worn parts and components, including pistons, rings, bearings, seals, and valves
  • Perform preventative maintenance and tune-ups on diesel engines
  • Use special tools, such as timing lights, compression testers, and scan tools, to diagnose and repair engines
  • Repair and adjust fuel injectors, fuel lines, and fuel pumps
  • Inspect and test vehicle electrical and electronic systems
  • Rebuild engines and other components as necessary
  • Install and adjust engine components and systems
  • Maintain records of maintenance and repair work performed
  • Monitor and adjust engine performance parameters, such as fuel pressure, air-fuel ratios, and timing
  • Perform diagnostic tests to identify and diagnose engine malfunctions
  • Use computerized diagnostic equipment to diagnose and repair engine-related problems
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working on diesel engines
  • Valid Driver's license and safe driving record; required to have California within 30 days
  • Ability to regularly lift 30 pounds; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Technicians must keep abreast of federal, state, and local regulations that affect their operations and comply with these regulations as well as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA policies
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the eight automotive specialty areas
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and electronic systems
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly stands, walks, sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears. Occasionally climbs or balances; bends, stretches, stoops, kneels, crouches, squats, or crawls to perform repairs and inspections; must lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in tight spaces
  • Good vision to inspect repair work
  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends when needed
Environment/Noise:
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
