We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our school district in Palatine, IL on a contracted basis. As a contracted Special Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional educational support to students with diverse learning needs. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Collaborate with the IEP team to create and implement tailored education plans for students with special needs.
  • Deliver Specialized Instruction and Interventions: Provide targeted instruction and support to students with disabilities, utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies and accommodations.
  • Adapt Curriculum Materials and Instructional Techniques: Modify curriculum and instructional methods to meet individual student needs and promote academic progress.
  • Assess Student Progress and Modify Instruction: Regularly evaluate student progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers and Specialists: Work with general education teachers and other specialists to create an inclusive learning environment and ensure students' needs are met in the least restrictive environment.
  • Provide Guidance and Support to General Education Teachers: Offer guidance and support to general education teachers in implementing accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Maintain Accurate Records and Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Keep accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and other relevant information, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide feedback on student progress and address their concerns.
  • Attend IEP Meetings, Team Meetings, and Professional Development Sessions: Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development sessions as required.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or Related Field: Possess a Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid Illinois Teaching License in Special Education: Hold a valid Illinois teaching license in Special Education.
  • Experience Working with Students with Diverse Learning Needs: Have experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with specific learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Knowledge of Special Education Laws and Regulations: Possess knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Strong Understanding of Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies: Have a strong understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills and Attention to Detail: Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and comply with administrative requirements.
  • Ability to Work Independently and Prioritize Tasks: Be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
