About the Role

We're seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Graduate- Designer 1 to join our Industrial team in Des Moines, IA. As a key member of our project team, you'll work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions and advice to clients. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design and Analysis: Assist in the design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Client Interaction: Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Project Execution: Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects. Assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Documentation: Assist with documenting design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions. Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Quality Control: Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Industry Trends: Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Safety: Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work. Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Design Techniques: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical and analytical skills, including knowledge of principles relating to thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as it relates to mechanical systems design in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for buildings.
  • Industry Software: Knowledge of industry-standard engineering software and tools, including HVAC load calculation software.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability: Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • BIM Software: Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • MS Office Suite: Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.

Education and Experience

To be considered for this role, you'll need:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
  • Certification: Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
