Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Equipment Specialist to join our team at Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. This role will involve providing technical expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of substation electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications, technical analysis of bid proposals, and review of manufacturers' designs and drawings.
  • Provide field support to system and equipment problems, including technical guidance and resolution of issues during installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair or replacement of equipment.
  • Ensure that the department is kept up to date on the progress of projects, including the update of the budget.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers, industry standards, and R&D organizations to perform vendor qualification activities and approve equipment suitable for our transmission and area substations.
  • Conduct and participate in field evaluation/analysis of field equipment or system misoperation, prepares failure analysis reports, and other analyses as may be required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and 3-5 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards associated with the equipment.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of substation layout and major equipment including breakers, switches, and substation steel.
  • The ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, technical, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with IEEE/ANSI Standards and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments.
