Kaiser Permanente is in search of a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for a nursing position.

Position Summary:
Responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care and services to patients and their families. Provides guidance to licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants. Delegates nursing responsibilities in accordance with legal and regulatory standards as well as organizational policies. Employs sound judgment in executing prescribed medical directives from healthcare practitioners. Acts as the primary nurse and total patient caregiver, serving as a resource and preceptor while taking on charge duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Practices professional nursing and assigns nursing tasks to nursing assistants while offering guidance to LPNs as necessary.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide effective care.
  • Performs tasks that require nursing expertise, judgment, and skills.
  • Administers medications as prescribed.
  • Educates LPNs and nursing assistants on specialized nursing tasks.
  • Ensures staff competency in performing specialized nursing tasks as appropriate.
  • Accountable for the quality of nursing care provided and the adequacy of care when delegating tasks to nursing assistants.
  • Functions as the primary nurse and total patient caregiver.
  • Acts as a resource nurse and preceptor.
  • Assumes charge duties as assigned.
  • Incorporates the Maui Health Vision, Model, and Values throughout nursing practice.
  • Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned within the scope of practice.
  • May be assigned to different cost centers, which may include various work locations on a shift-by-shift basis to meet patient care needs.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • N/A
Education
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support or CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii) required upon hire.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in adaptability, change management, decision-making, attention to detail, customer service, influence, interpersonal relations, oral communication, prioritization, problem-solving, quality management, results orientation, systems thinking, teamwork, time management, and written communication. One (1) year of experience in the specialty area or completion of a formal course in the specialty area within a designated timeframe after hiring into the specialty.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • One (1) year of experience or completion of a formal course in the specialty area.
  • Coursework in basic EKG.
