Powertrain Product Engineer II

We are seeking a highly skilled Powertrain Product Engineer II - EV Systems to join our team at ROUSH. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and releasing electric powertrain hardware, including high voltage battery systems, electric motors, and inverters.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience with product development tasks and cadence from concept to production. You will be expected to work autonomously on project responsibilities, with periodic program leadership check-ins to ensure activities remain on track and aligned with specific project objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting HV system architecture layouts and hardware sizing activities
- Selection and packaging of electric powertrain hardware, including high voltage battery systems, electric motors, and inverters
- Designing and developing HV junction boxes, including busbars, contactors, fuses, and relays
- HV wire harness design, including component selection and routing
- Applying relevant engineering analysis to create new component and subsystem designs to meet customer requirements
- Working with CAD resources to develop 3D models and 2D prints
- Working with CAE resources to analytically evaluate and validate design proposals
- Developing and executing program-specific hardware test plans to validate function while maintaining relevant DVP&R documentation
- Interface and coordinate with suppliers to deliver both prototype parts and production solutions
- Supporting prototype and pre-production build events
- Supporting production launch for responsible components/systems
- Periodically reporting out progress and status to program leadership
- Identifying when project challenges arise and seeking out guidance when necessary
As a Powertrain Product Engineer II - EV Systems, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related degree
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience
- Basic knowledge of product development tasks and cadence from concept to production
- High mechanical aptitude
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Basic understanding of all powertrain subsystems, including IC engines, EV powertrain systems and components, air induction and filtration, exhaust and aftertreatment systems, fuel systems, and powertrain thermal systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical prints and assembly instructions, including working knowledge of GD&T
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings while possibly handling multiple assignments simultaneously
- Familiarity with dFMEA and DVP&R documents
- MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiency
A successful candidate may also have:
- Experience in xEV architecture design, hardware sizing, high voltage electrical systems, including high voltage battery systems
- Electrical hardware design or sizing and selection experience of components, such as electric motors and inverters, high voltage battery systems, cables, busbars, fuses, contactors, and relays
- Prior engineering experience in automotive, military, agricultural, or commercial truck industry with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or Tier 1 supplier
- Ability to handle new and sometimes unfamiliar technical assignments with minimal guidance
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to unfamiliar challenges
- Strong understanding of prototype and production assembly and manufacturing processes, as well as production fabrication and machining methodologies
- Basic 3D CAD software capabilities to generate initial basic design concepts/sketches
- Ability to convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences
