GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Interventional Radiology Technician delivers direct patient care before, during, and after Heart and/or Vascular procedures, supporting physicians and ensuring high-quality patient and family-centered care.

The role may involve performing IV insertions, preparing patients, monitoring hemodynamics, operating specialized equipment, documenting procedures, managing vascular access sites, and providing education to patients and their families.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive and interventional procedures, providing intra-procedural technical support and quality care.
  • May be required to perform and document hemodynamic and physiological waveforms and calculations.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, physicians, patients, families, and all ancillary departments while consistently demonstrating the Corewell Health Standards.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on technical equipment and perform departmental skills validations.
  • Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients in accordance with the Corewell Health Radiation Safety Department.
  • Participate in on-call duties as per departmental schedule.
  • May provide training to less experienced technicians.

Interventional Radiology Technicians must be proficient in assisting physicians using sterile techniques and fully engage in image post-processing, cross-modality imaging (CT, U/S), 3D imaging, as well as vascular and cerebral cases if applicable.

Cath Lab Technicians, if applicable, should be skilled in utilizing IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, EKOS, Impella, and various cardiac, peripheral, and carotid interventions.

EP Lab Technicians, if applicable, must be adept in using ICE, participating in device implants, and circulating in all other EP cases, including advanced EP procedures and laser lead extractions.


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Training:

Completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT) is required for Interventional Radiology. For Cath Lab/EP Lab, candidates must be graduates of a Cardiovascular Technologist program, hold an associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic science, possess a Paramedic license, or have equivalent training and/or education.


Work Experience:

Candidates must have over 3 years of interventional experience and be recognized as experts capable of training others in the clinical skills relevant to each department and/or site scope.

If the department encompasses multiple specialties, candidates must demonstrate expertise in all areas performed.


Certification, Licensure, Registration:

Interventional Radiology requires BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, along with RT-CV or VI registration. Cath Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire, Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification. EP Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire, along with Registered RCIS/RCES/RT.


Other Qualifications:

Basic computer skills, mathematical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and outstanding customer service skills are essential. Cath Lab staff must be on-site within 30 minutes, while IR call response times may vary by facility.
