Job Overview

OBJECTIVE:

The Automotive Service Technician is chiefly tasked with executing proficient mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks as designated, adhering to dealership and manufacturer standards. This role also includes supervising any apprentice technicians assigned to the technician.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct mechanical repairs as specified on the repair order with precision and efficiency, following dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Identify the source of any malfunction and carry out necessary mechanical repairs. Collaborate with the parts department to procure required components. Preserve and label parts if the service is under warranty or upon customer request.
  • Inspect the vehicle to ascertain if further safety or service work is necessary. Promptly inform the service advisor if additional mechanical work is required, if outlined work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Record work performed on each vehicle on the Repair Order using the concern, cause, correction format. Clearly articulate the technician's narrative on your terminal, as this will be visible to the customer and will influence billing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to assist in snow removal on the sales lot and vehicles.
  • Capability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Must tolerate standard shop noise (e.g., tools, equipment, vehicles).

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Proactively and positively engage in all activities necessary to enhance and uphold the highest levels of Customer Satisfaction within the Dealership.
  • Ensure repairs are executed correctly on the first attempt. Conduct road tests, have customers complete the Diagnostic Questionnaire provided by the dealership, review service history and factory technical information, and communicate directly with customers when necessary. Escalate unresolved issues to the Dispatcher and/or Service Director.
  • Perform road tests on vehicles as needed or refer to the test technician, ensuring that customer vehicles are not utilized for personal errands. Oversee the work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Participate in factory-sponsored training sessions. Stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
  • Ensure that customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition. Keep the workshop area organized and clean, and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools at all times.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations regarding the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Attend dealership-sponsored training programs.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Be willing to serve on the safety committee if elected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ASE certification is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a state inspection and emissions license.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and information.
  • General mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Manual dexterity and sound judgment.
  • Must wear the company-provided uniform.
  • Willingness to work on Saturdays if it coincides with the last day of the month.
