Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Researcher to join our team at Sandoval County, NM. As a Tax Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting research and applying technical and statutory work to ensure accurate and timely processing of property tax payments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and apply technical and statutory work to ensure accurate and timely processing of property tax payments.
  • Interact daily with taxpayers over the phone, in person, and at outreach throughout the county to provide excellent customer service.
  • Formulate and write letters to taxpayers regarding property tax matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality of office documents and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Process and record high volume property tax payments, including cash, credit cards, and checks.
  • Reconcile individual cash drawers for daily deposit and examine property, non-residential, and personal accounts, including manufactured/mobile homes and delinquent accounts.
  • Prepare, review, maintain, monitor, and collect information on delinquent accounts, including affixing and removing Liens on delinquent manufactured/mobile homes.
  • Issue State of NM Manufactured/Mobile Home status certification and movement permits.
  • Complete other duties as assigned, including assisting with the annual Sandoval County delinquent accounts in preparation for auction and processing and recording non-sufficient fund payments.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution, two (2) years post-secondary education in business, finance, political science, accounting, or related field, and one (1) year of experience in banking, cashiering, cash handling, or bookkeeping.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of New Mexico Certified Treasury Official Certification within 1.5 years of hire.
