ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a proactive, resourceful, and organized individual to join our team as a Reinsurance Staff Accountant. In this capacity, you will collaborate closely with the Reinsurance Accounting team to ensure precise accounting within our growth-oriented reinsurance sector. Your responsibilities will include managing all facets of reinsurance agreements in accordance with treaty specifications and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment for all reinsurance transactions. Key tasks involve creating journal entries for premiums, allowances, claims recoverable, and maintaining the parameters necessary to support business requirements. This role necessitates regular communication with third-party reinsurers, finance team members, and auditors to guarantee compliance with all reinsurance agreements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer both existing and new reinsurance agreements in line with treaty specifications.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets to track treaty activities.
- Analyze new reinsurance agreements, propose procedures for accurate transaction capture, and report to reinsurers.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and comprehensive calculations, recording, reporting, and billing in accordance with treaty terms.
- Prepare and document journal entries for reinsurance activities.
- Reconcile reinsurance-related transactions, proactively identify issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Oversee financial reporting while managing payables and receivables.
- Assist in the design and evaluation of internal controls.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
- Engage with finance team members, third-party reinsurers, and senior management across the organization.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (experience in the life insurance sector is advantageous); or a combination of education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates your capability to fulfill the role.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of SQL is a plus.
- Exceptional time management skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Capacity to build relationships with a variety of team members across the organization.

POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS
This is a full-time role. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the department manager.
