Job Summary
The Painter is a skilled professional responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of interior and exterior surfaces and structures at San Francisco State University. This role requires a high level of expertise in painting, finishing, and drywall work, as well as the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing, including sanding, cleaning, and applying primers and coatings.
- Apply paints and finishes using a variety of methods, including brush, roll, spray, and electro-static spray.
- Hang paper and perform other finishing tasks, such as installing trim and molding.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets specifications and safety codes.
- Estimate costs, time, and materials for painting projects and inspect related work performed by contractors.
- Participate in the maintenance and operations of the paint shop, including cleaning and maintaining equipment and tools.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of painting methods, materials, tools, and equipment, including drywall and paperhanging.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
- Valid California Driver's License and ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
Working Conditions
- Wear distinctive clothing and safety shoes provided by the University at all times when in pay status.
- Comply with Defensive Drivers Training program requirements if a vehicle is used to travel on official business.
