Road Maintenance Worker I/II

We are seeking a skilled Road Maintenance Worker I/II to join our team at Johnson County Public Works. As a key member of our Road Maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the completion of general road maintenance tasks, including construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, rights of way, and other County infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including dumping, spreading, and tamping asphalt to repair joints and patch broken pavement.
- Operate a variety of light and medium duty road maintenance and construction equipment, including trucks, dump trucks, skid steer loader, water trucks, compact rollers, mini excavator, power broom, and snow removal equipment.
- Perform roadside landscaping work, including mowing, clearing weeds, cutting brush, and trimming trees to maintain a clear recovery zone for motorists.
- Install erosion control materials to facilitate restoration of roadside vegetation.
- A high school diploma or equivalent, a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement, and an acceptable driving record are required.
- Vo-Tech certification/degree in Agricultural, Automotive, or Construction Technology, or other related fields of study and one (1) year of experience on construction projects such as roads and bridges are preferred.

We also offer a $2,000.00 sign-on bonus to candidates who are selected and hired into this position.
This is a safety-sensitive job that requires the ability to work in extreme temperatures, fumes, and chemicals, heights, and loud noises. The position is required to respond to requests for emergency and after-hours work, which will require work when the facility is closed. Overtime may be required as needed.
