Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Home, School, and Office Visits: Meet with juvenile offenders and their families to assess their needs and develop individualized supervision plans.
  • Prepare Chronological Reports: Document progress and provide recommendations for court proceedings and treatment purposes.
  • Conduct Interviews: Gather information from juvenile offenders, their families, and other stakeholders to inform supervision decisions.
  • Develop Individual Supervision Plans: Create tailored plans to help juvenile offenders achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
  • Counsel Juveniles and Families: Provide guidance and support to help juvenile offenders and their families overcome obstacles and achieve success.
  • Prepare Documents: Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive records of juvenile offender interactions and progress.
  • Refer Juveniles to Outside Services: Connect juvenile offenders with community resources and services to support their rehabilitation and reintegration.
  • Administer Drug Tests: Conduct drug screenings to monitor juvenile offender compliance with court-ordered conditions.
  • Serve Summonses: Deliver court documents and notifications to juvenile offenders and their families.
  • Represent the Department at Court Hearings: Advocate for juvenile offenders and provide information to the court to inform decision-making.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: A degree in a related field, such as social work, psychology, or criminology, is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a related field, such as social services, corrections, or juvenile justice, is required.
  • Certification: Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer and Juvenile Supervision Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) is required.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with diverse populations, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications are required.
Working Conditions

The work environment is primarily inside an office setting with frequent local travel. In emergency situations, you may be assigned to work inside a pre-adjudication or post-adjudication facility environment. You must be able to react professionally and safely under potential or actual volatile conditions and utilize Department-approved techniques when necessary.

The employee occasionally is exposed to emergency situations in which there is the possibility of danger or physical injury. The employee has frequent contact with other employees both within and outside of the assigned division, law enforcement and juvenile justice system officials, and juveniles and their families. The employee must remain calm and professional in tense, emotionally charged, and stressful situations. The employee frequently must work under time pressures to meet deadlines and must perform multiple tasks simultaneously. The employee must work closely with others as part of and/or a leader of a team. The employee constantly must present a positive attitude as a role model for juveniles and the community. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be noisy and distracting.
