Job Title: Associate Director Target Biology

WuXi AppTec is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead our in vitro biology team in San Diego. As a key member of our drug discovery team, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of scientists to execute various scientific projects, ensuring successful project execution and high-quality services.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead in vitro biology scientific team to execute a variety of scientific projects.
  • Build and grow a high-performance in vitro biology team, providing effective mentorship and performance management.
  • Assist senior leader in delivery of financial and productivity goals.
  • Provide scientific direction and strategy to identify and implement emerging key technologies to expand service capabilities and fulfill customer needs in cutting-edge drug discoveries.
  • Coordinate efforts and facilitate communication to ensure alignment between different units and our customers.
  • Provide support and participate in business development activities to promote services and engage new customers.
  • Ensure operation compliance of EHS rules and government regulations for all members of the in vitro biology team.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in Molecular biology, Cell biology or related field with a minimum of 6-10 years of Biotech/Pharmaceutical/CRO working experience.
  • Experienced with leading and managing teams.
  • Demonstrated broad expertise in various in vitro biology areas.
  • Expertise with cellular models with human PBMC and whole blood for autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases research.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in target discovery, oncology and immunology.
  • Familiarity with genome editing using CRISPR for cell engineering and extensive experience in iPSC & ESC research.
  • Knowledge of in vitro pharmacology including assay development, validation and compound screening.
  • Experienced with managing team(s) to include junior scientists and research associates.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.
  • Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to Animals/biohazards / Chemicals.
  • Must not have animal allergies to applicable species in this facility.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
  • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels.
  • Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to Lift 10 lbs routinely.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Ability to push/pull 10 lbs routinely/ often / occasionally.
  • Clarity of Vision.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions.
  • Ability to climb Ladders / Stairs / Scaffolding.
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing.
  • Inside/outside working conditions.

Anticipated base pay range: $152,000 - 182,000
