Job Overview:

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Lead Educator in the comprehensive care, nurturing, and instruction of a center-based group of young learners. This position collaborates closely with families and fellow staff members to deliver a full spectrum of services to children and their families. The role encompasses 33 hours of work per week, across 37 weeks each year, with a scheduled summer break.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure adherence to all relevant federal and state health and safety regulations, including guidelines from the Child & Adult Care Food Program, Head Start Performance Standards, and agency policies.
  2. Foster respectful and culturally sensitive partnerships with families.
  3. Conduct parent-teacher meetings and home visits to identify and address family strengths and needs.
  4. Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children, applying principles of Active Supervision consistently.
  5. Assist the Lead Educator in developing curriculum and lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of individual children, taking into account their interests, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  6. Support accurate documentation of program operations, including ongoing observations of children and assessments of their developmental progress.
  7. Engage with community partnerships to support families and children.
  8. Guide volunteers in understanding and adhering to program philosophy while interacting with children.
  9. Participate in weekly staff meetings, regular supervisory sessions, and all mandatory training.
Additional Duties:
  1. Assist kitchen and janitorial staff as needed.
  2. Perform other assigned tasks as required.

Employment Qualifications:
  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Pass state and federal background checks.
  3. High School diploma or GED with experience working with young children.
  4. Willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) or an AA in Early Childhood Education within two years of hire.
  5. Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  6. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  7. Knowledge of community resources.
  8. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  9. Obtain necessary food safety certifications as required.
  10. Complete annual professional development training.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. AA or BA/BS degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
