Instructional Assistant III

Carpinteria Middle School is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Instructional Assistant III to join our Special Education team. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support to students with varying needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide in-depth support to small groups and individual students on special subjects and exercises, and/or with special needs, to execute individual lesson plans and strategies for maximizing learning experiences.
- Prepare and develop age/grade appropriate instructional aids and exercises to support the curriculum being taught.
- Assist special program administrators and/or teaching staff with preparation and presentation of in-service training sessions, and participate in meetings to share information about the program.
- Confer with teachers, specialists, and parents to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives, and assist with implementation of special programs.
- Administer assessment instruments, score objective tests and written papers, and keep appropriate records for teachers, including those on computerized student information and grading systems.
- Assist in training other instructional support specialists and other school personnel to administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests required by the program.
- Monitor classroom activities when a teacher is absent from the classroom, accompany students going from one location to another, observe, monitor, and control behavior of students within approved procedures.
- Develop and use incentives as positive reinforcement, exercise constant supervision of children, assess the need for, and use appropriate discipline in accordance with grade level and student's ability to understand discipline.
- Report student academic and behavior progress and performance to teachers, document student progress by correcting assignments, administering and scoring criterion referenced tests, recording and charting test scores and curriculum-based measurements in reading.
- Confer, as needed, with teachers, resource staff, and other school personnel concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, alert teacher to any special problems or information concerning students in assigned program, arrange and participate in parent conferences.
- Assist special program administrative staff with the preparation and presentation of in-service training sessions, assist in organizing meetings, participate in meetings to share information about the program.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of files and records for classroom or assigned program, provide clerical and technical assistance to teachers, such as researching and ordering books and school supplies, maintaining a workroom inventory.
- Review teachers' schedules and initiate requests for equipment and resource materials to support curriculum, set up and operate audiovisual equipment, computers, and other equipment to assist and enhance instructional programs.
- Assist with loading and unloading of students onto buses, supervise lunches and snacks, assure safety of students following health and safety rules.
- When working with severely disabled, may be required to assist students with certain feeding, medical, and hygiene functions, including toileting and restroom assistance.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of 1 year of experience working with students or childcare preferred.
