Position Overview
A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is actively seeking a qualified individual for the role of Assistant/Associate Professor/Family Medicine Physician. This role is integral to the Family Medicine Residency Program and involves collaboration with various academic and administrative leaders within the institution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide oversight and evaluation of residents participating in the Family Medicine Residency Program.
2. Deliver and manage comprehensive patient care, including conducting physical examinations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a designated patient demographic.
3. Mentor and supervise medical students assigned to the clinic environment.
4. Engage in committee work, including GMEC and other subcommittees, as needed.
5. Collaborate with fellow Family Medicine faculty to foster a constructive educational atmosphere.
6. Participate in the recruitment and selection process for residency candidates.
7. Encourage resident involvement in educational and scholarly pursuits.
8. Oversee and coordinate the patient care functions of nursing and support personnel as necessary.
9. Adhere to established departmental policies, quality improvement initiatives, and safety standards.
10. Provide ongoing medical services to patients.
11. Evaluate trainees as required and collaborate with program leadership to ensure compliance with ACGME standards.
12. Attend departmental and residency program meetings and contribute to committee activities as assigned.
13. Assist in the development of clinical presentations and curriculum integration.
14. Address assessment issues affecting students and faculty, contributing to policy revisions as needed.
15. Conduct interviews for KCOM applicants and participate in various committees as assigned.
16. Develop educational materials and assessments related to internal medicine coursework.
17. Complete the annual Faculty Activity Report.
Qualifications
1. Doctorate in Medicine (DO or MD) is required.
2. Board Certification in Family Medicine is mandatory.
3. Preference for candidates with extensive training in family medicine.
4. Federal DEA Certification and relevant medical specialty licenses or certifications are required.
5. Previous teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
6. Experience in medical education is advantageous.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
8. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and work collaboratively within a larger organization.
Skills Required
1. Proficient in observing, assessing, and documenting patient symptoms and progress.
2. Knowledgeable about legal and ethical standards in medical care delivery.
3. Familiarity with relevant medications and patient care aids, including prescribing practices.
4. Commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards in patient care.
5. Understanding of community medical services and related accreditation requirements.
6. Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
