Job Overview


The Construction Projects Engineering (CPE) division is a vital part of the Bettis Construction Department, overseeing the successful delivery of projects from inception to completion.

The Facilities Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in leading the planning, design, and execution of a diverse range of projects.

These projects typically encompass medium to large-scale renovations, infrastructure enhancements, and the construction of office spaces, laboratories, and testing facilities.

Facilities Engineers collaborate closely with Project Managers, Contract Administrators, Construction Oversight personnel, Stakeholders, and Subcontractors to implement infrastructure improvement initiatives at the Bettis Laboratory.

The Facilities Engineering Manager is tasked with engaging in complex technical assignments, allowing for innovative approaches to problem-solving through self-directed design, contracting Architect-Engineer services, or employing design-build strategies to craft effective engineering solutions that align with facility requirements.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for steering the technical process by developing project functional requirements, preparing submittals including project documents and/or drawings, specifying materials, reviewing project plans, estimating necessary manpower and costs, and providing oversight to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Strong technical fundamentals, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, are essential for success in this position.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage engineering duties for all facets of assigned projects with minimal supervision while ensuring progress on key deliverables.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and effectively function as a member of a project execution team.
  • Provide technical direction during the development, design, and execution phases of assigned projects.
  • Facilitate discussions regarding scope and requirements with technical teams and clients during the formulation of contract functional requirements.
  • Review or prepare: drawings, specifications, project timelines, and cost estimates.
  • During project execution, coordinate activities with building owners, system owners, and compliance organizations.
  • Collaborate closely with various internal and external organizations (architectural, system and maintenance engineering, and regulatory compliance) to achieve program objectives.
  • Proactively lead initiatives within your area of responsibility and implement changes to enhance existing processes.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related scientific field, accompanied by 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in engineering or a related scientific field with 7 years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of construction management principles.
  • Familiarity with industry practices, building codes, and standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD drafting software.
  • Experience in developing construction subcontract documents (specifications, drawings, and cost estimates).
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including IBC, AISC, ACI, ASTM, AWS, AWC, and AISI.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred but not mandatory.

Salary Range:

$103,000 - $161,100 annually. Salary is determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, and market considerations.
