About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Terrain Modeling and Mapping Expert to join our team at KBR. As a key member of our Science and Space division, you will play a critical role in supporting our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to production teams and scientists, ensuring the delivery of high-quality elevation datasets.
  • Investigate production system errors and implement solutions to resolve discrepancies in adjacent DEM sources.
  • Generate, understand, and derive 1-meter seamless elevation tiles using prioritized disparate 3DEP Original Product Resolution (DEM) sources.
  • Project and transform data to map specifications, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Capture metadata and execute accuracy checks against Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC)-level mosaics to conduct quality assurance/quality control reviews and resolution.
  • Provide research and testing for changes/enhancements to the production process, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Perform regional vertical accuracy assessments and provide assistance/guidance on reference checkpoint data.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Earth Science, Natural Science, Physical Science, or a related field with an emphasis in geography, remote sensing, GIS, software engineering, or information technology.
  • At least 5 years of directly related professional experience, with a willingness to consider differing combinations of education/experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of elevation data and mapping applications, including experience working with GIS software applications (such as ArcGIS Pro).
  • Proficient in geospatial data processing and scripting languages (such as Python and R).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective questioning, listening, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, dependability, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience generating elevation maps and working with Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL).
  • Experience conducting investigations related to geospatial data and leading technical teams.
